Due to a power station collapse resulting from some technical glitches, Abuja and Kogi are currently experiencing a blackout, with impact on businesses.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), on Tuesday, notified customers in Zamani Estate, Abacha Road Mararaba, and other parts of Abuja about the issue originating from a technical fault on the 33kv feeder k6 from AT9 Karu Transmission Station.
The DisCo, in a statement, stated, “The management of Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc wishes to notify its esteemed customers that there is currently a technical fault on 33kv feeder k6 from AT9 Karu Transmission Station, managed by the Transmission Company of Nigeria. The areas affected in Abuja are: Zamani Estate, Abacha Road Mararaba, Ruga Juli, Old Karu Road, Glory Estate, and environs.”
The company, however, said efforts were underway by the TCN maintenance crew to restore electricity supply to these areas promptly, with the AEDC expressing regret for any inconvenience caused.

Earlier announcements by TCN had outlined planned maintenance on its TR3 45MVA and TR2 60MVA power transformers in its 132/33kV Okene Transmission Substation.
The maintenance, scheduled from Tuesday to Wednesday, 10 am to 3 pm each day, would temporarily disrupt power supply to Okene, Kabba, Ososo, and Ikare, as Abuja DisCo would be unable to off-take power from the substation during this period.
Additionally, TCN spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah, stated, “Kindly note that bulk power supply will be restored to Abuja DisCo immediately after maintenance work is completed.”
Concerns over the worsening power supply since January had led the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, summoning the management of AEDC and the Managing Director of TCN.
Despite these challenges, DisCos and TCN have consistently attributed low power supply to issues such as gas shortages, vandalism, energy theft, and other factors.
