As Lokoja metropolis continues to witness more darkness over persistent power failure, residents of the state capital have protested to the Area Office of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company to demand a steady power supply.

Expressing their misgiving over the unreliable power supply, the residents on Tuesday urged the AEDC to promptly respond to the issue of poor power supply, lamenting that the continual lack of electricity has almost crippled businesses in the state.

The protest which was led by the Chairman of Light Up, Mallam Iliasu Zakari, had been met with no positive response from the AEDC since moments before the Christmas and New Year celebration when it had been moving against epileptic power supply in the states with constant power outages.

In addition to their demand for improved power supply, the group also sought an end to crazy and exorbitant billing practices by the AEDC in the state without providing commensurate services.

They warned that if nothing is done to their demands, there may be further mass uprisings against the company in the state.

“This issues we have raised must be addressed with all seriousness it deserves to avoid break down of law and order in the state as people are tired of AEDC activities,” the group warned.

The protesters were seen displaying placards conveying messages such as:

“We are tired of frequent power outages, epileptic power supply in Lokoja and its environs“, “AEDC should give us light to boost our economic fortunes in the state,” and “Stop the outrageous billings”.

The Area Manager of AEDC in Lokoja, Emmanuel Ajibogun, who met with the protesters, commended them for their peaceful conduct.

He acknowledged the inadequacies on the side of AEDC and assured them that their grievances would be addressed, promising a round table discussion with community leaders as soon as possible.
