The leaders of All Progressives Congress (APC) from the North-central geopolitical zone have finally nailed the coffins of agitators clamouring for the return of the National Chairmanship position to the zone. Instead, they threw their weight behind the current occupant of the seat, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
The APC Leaders under the aegis of Concerned North-central APC Stakeholders made their position known when they stormed the APC national secretariat, Abuja yesterday in a show of solidarity to Ganduje, who, they said, would lead the party beyond the 2027 general elections.
The APC stakeholders led by a former Senate President, Sen. Ameh Ebute from Benue state said the present National Working Committee (NWC) of APC has shown the capacity to lead and be fair to all irrespective of region, tribe or religion, adding that they need the support of all and sundry to work more.
“We appreciate the advocates’ efforts to bring the chairman’s office back to North Central Zone, but we think that the most important factor in selecting the next national chairman of our party should be the candidate’s performance history as demonstrated by their victories in political contests against the opposition.
The ways that the party’s grassroots members around the nation are directly benefited from its nationwide initiatives are equally significant,” the group stated.
The North-central Elders further stated that they have weighed all options, but the belief rested squarely on Abdullahi Ganduje because of his excellent performances in the office.
“Indeed, you’re not just a performing National Chairman but a National Chairman that had done the most in the shortest possible time to positively impact individual members of our great party while our party have also recorded impressive electoral strides bereft of rancour under your leadership,” the Elders eulogized Ganduje.
One of the prominent Politicians from the North-central, Sen. Jack Tilley-Gyado, who was on the delegation to the occasion also stated that Ganduje’s leadership as National Chairman has been very effective and that the group prays he stay in the position and leads the party to 2027.
It would be recalled that some group of youths allegedly rooting for former governor of kogi state, Yahaya Bello were agitating for a return of the National Chairmanship position currently occupied by Engr. Abdullahi Ganduje from the North West to the North Central states which was originally given to by the party’ zoning arrangement .
The agitations which were allegedly funded and supported by the former Governor was frustrated by the stern press release issued by the National Secretariat of the party warning Bello and his cohorts to desist from fomenting trouble that the position was never vacant.
