The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, has launched an investigation into reports of an alleged assault involving Immigration officers, personnel of the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Agency (OYSRTMA), and a journalist in Ibadan, Oyo State.
In a press release by NIS Public Relations Officer DCI Kenneth Udo, CGI Nandap addressed the alleged assault in Ibadan on Tuesday, April 9, 2024.
According to the CGI, an incident report from the Zone F Headquarters of NIS in Ibadan alleged that personnel from OYSRTMA attempted to apprehend a retired Assistant Comptroller of Immigration (ACI) for traffic violations at the Onipepeye area (Old Ife road).
However, the situation reportedly escalated, resulting in an assault on the ACI and a fractured leg of his son, who was driving the car.
Furthermore, the involvement of Immigration officers from the Zone F office worsened the situation, further complicating matters.

CGI Nandap expressed deep concern over the incident, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between agencies and condemning any actions that violate the law or endanger the lives of others.
Part of the statement read: ‘Nandap is deeply concerned and takes exception to a situation where personnel of OYSRTMA, a journalist and those of the NIS who ought to be partners in progress, would be caught up in a contradiction which resulted in injury and violations of the law.
‘She has, therefore, ordered a thorough investigation into the incident, stressing that the Service will not hesitate to sanction any of its Officers and Men who flaunt the law and code of conduct.’
Similarly, CGI Nandap also called for understanding from the public and emphasized the need for continued collaboration among government agencies.
She reiterated the NIS’s commitment to professionalism and integrity in fulfilling its duties related to border security and migration management.
