The Federal Government has issued directives for the reopening of the 3rd Mainland Bridge for smooth traffic, signaling relief for commuters.
Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, communicated the decision to the Lagos State Controller of Works, Engr. O.I. Kesha, in the early hours of Thursday.
According to a statement released by Ben. Bem Goong, Director of Press and Public Relations, the reopening of the Lagos 3rd Mainland Bridge is scheduled to take effect today.
In his statement, Goong conveyed the Minister’s instructions, emphasizing the need to ease the burden on motorists, who have faced challenges during the initial phase of rehabilitation works on the bridge.
Minister Umahi, speaking to journalists following the directive, applauded the successful completion of the first phase of rehabilitation initiated and concluded during the tenure of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration.
He hailed this accomplishment as a testament to President Tinubu’s commitment to infrastructure development.
Umahi urged Nigerians to maintain faith in the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President, acknowledging the challenges encountered in achieving progress.
Additionally, the Minister disclosed that efforts have commenced to address underwater damage to the bridge, marking the beginning of the second phase of rehabilitation.

Furthermore, Umahi announced plans to initiate similar rehabilitation works on the Carter bridge in the coming weeks. He assured that the contractor assigned to the project has been mobilized and preparations are underway to commence the necessary works promptly.
