In a historic moment for Senegal, Bassirou Faye took the oath of office as the nation’s youngest President at the age of 44.
The inauguration ceremony, held on Tuesday in the new town of Diamniadio near Dakar, marked a significant milestone in Senegal’s political landscape.
Faye, a former tax inspector with no prior elected office experience, pledged to uphold the duties of the presidency before the Senegalese people and international dignitaries.
Among the attendees was President Bola Tinubu, who doubled as the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Taking over from former President Macky Sall, Faye vowed to adhere to the constitution, defend national sovereignty, and pursue African unity.
