Nigerian singer Stanley Omah Didia, better known as Omah Lay, has shared his perception of the relationship between himself and fellow artist Davido.
Addressing the public through his X handle on Tuesday, Omah Lay expressed his long-held belief that Davido harbored animosity towards him. The statement followed an incident where Davido was spotted playing Omah Lay’s tracks while chauffeuring popular American content creator, Kai Cenat, around Lagos on Monday night.
“I’ve always thought OBO hated me!” Omah Lay wrote.

Similarly within the same time frame, Davido is currently under severe criticism for asserting that Nigeria is made up of only three tribes.
In a not-quite-long-ago encounter with Kai Cenat, the artist made the erroneous claim that Nigeria is home to only three tribes: Yoruba, Igbo, and Benin.
“We have three tribes in Nigeria. There’s Yoruba. My father is Yoruba. And in Nigeria, wherever your father is from, that’s where you are really from. So my father is Yoruba. My wife is from Igbo. And my mother is from Benin. I’m three tribes in one,” Davido stated.
However, Davido’s assertion stands in stark contrast to the data on Wikipedia, which reveals a far more intricate nature of ethnic groups within Nigeria. According to figures, the nation boasts a staggering 371 distinct tribes, with the Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba constituting the majority.
The singer’s remarks have drawn criticism from various quarters, with many highlighting the importance of acknowledging and celebrating Nigeria’s diverse heritage.
Social media platforms were therefore abuzz with commentary, expressing disappointment at Davido’s oversight.
In light of the backlash, Davido has yet to issue a formal response or clarification regarding his statement.
