During the conversation, which took place in Lagos, Davido made the erroneous claim that Nigeria is home to only three tribes: Yoruba, Igbo, and Benin.
“We have three tribes in Nigeria. There’s Yoruba. My father is Yoruba. And in Nigeria, wherever your father is from, that’s where you are really from. So my father is Yoruba. My wife is from Igbo. And my mother is from Benin. I’m three tribes in one,” Davido stated.
However, Davido’s assertion stands in stark contrast to the data on Wikipedia , which reveals a far more intricate nature of ethnic groups within Nigeria. According to figures, the nation boasts a staggering 371 distinct tribes, with the Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba constituting the majority.
The singer’s remarks have drawn criticism from various quarters, with many highlighting the importance of acknowledging and celebrating Nigeria’s diverse heritage. Social media platforms were abuzz with commentary, with users expressing disappointment at Davido’s oversight.

The singer also recently declared his wife, Chioma, the best chef ever.
