Tragedy struck as a woman lost her life after abandoning her kids at an Enugu police station and crashing into an oncoming car.

Eyes witness account revealed that after walking into the Ogui Road police station with her children, the deceased, whose name was unknown at the time of the occurrence, gave them over to the officers, undressed, and dashed into the oncoming car, which crushed her to death.

The ages of the three children are reportedly six, four, and two.

Check further revealed that her husband was alleged to have run away from home months ago over increased hardship, abandoning the wife and the children.

When asked about their father, the eldest of the children innocently said he was lost.

She could not give any other information about their family, town, or residential address.

When Nkechinyere Mbah, the wife of the governor of Enugu State, heard about the incident, she hurried to the police station and was informed that the deceased might be suffering from depression.

Mbah, who was touched by the development, said she would take care of the children and train them from nursery school to university. She announced that sponsorship for the children would be undertaken by her Custos Care Foundation.

In addition, Mrs Mbah gave the order for the kids to be taken from the station and placed in a home right away, under the supervision of state authorities. She recommended counselling for those experiencing melancholy and caution when making snap decisions.

She further encouraged Ngozi Enih, the Commissioner of the Ministry of Children, Gender, and Social Development, to step up counselling and sensitization, particularly for the depressed.
