The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made significant breakthroughs, intercepting drug consignments and apprehending key individuals involved in narcotics distribution across various states in Nigeria.
Operatives at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos, foiled an attempt to smuggle a consignment of Colorado, a potent strain of cannabis, concealed in boxing kits imported from the United States.
The agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, announced the arrest of 38-year-old Olorunfunmi Olakunle, the distributor responsible for circulating the dangerous psychoactive substance across Lagos State. The consignment, weighing 1.80 kilograms, arrived in the country on January 1 via an Egypt Airlines flight.
In a related development, a female ammunition supplier to bandits, Bilkisu Suleman, was arrested along the Zaria-Kano Expressway. NDLEA officers on patrol discovered 249 rounds of 7.62 mm live ammunition concealed in her handbag. The agency’s interdiction operations also led to the arrest of several other suspects across Kaduna, Niger, Kogi, Kano, Borno, and Osun states.
In a separate incident, the NDLEA intercepted a J5 bus along the Suleja-Kaduna Road, discovering 23 bags of cannabis sativa weighing 219.5kg. Two suspects, Umar Musa, 26, and Isachiru Abubakar, were apprehended in connection with the seizure.
Other notable arrests include Queen Onyema, 27, caught with cannabis and designer drugs en route to Abuja, and Mubarak Sani, 20, nabbed in Kano with a significant quantity of psychoactive substances.
