After the committee set up for the validation and authentication of retirees’ data by the state governor, Governor Dauda Lawal, the Zamfara State Government revealed that the disbursement of the sum of N13.4B in gratuities has commenced.
According to the post on Sulaiman Bala Idris X handle, spokesperson for Zamfara State Governor, the committee is to pay off retirees who have accumulated gratuity debt from 2011 to date.
Adding to that, some of the verified retirees, both local and state government employees, have started receiving their payments since Thursday.
“Retired state and local government employees who were verified have begun receiving their gratuity payments since Thursday.
“The state government has taken a significant step towards addressing the outstanding debt of gratuity owed to retirees, which comprises death gratuities, retirement gratuities, and contract gratuities.
“Governor Dauda Lawal set up a committee to validate and authenticate retiree data to settle the debt of gratuities that has accumulated since 2011.
“After validating the data of retired civil servants, the government discovered that the total amount owed from state and local governments is 13.4 billion Naira,” Mr Idris stated.

Additionally, the statement noted that the established committee has made significant progress in authenticating data submitted by local government and state pension commissions, as well as conducting physical verification of beneficiaries.
The state government said they will ensure that all retirees are verified and paid their gratuities without undergoing any challenges.
It was acknowledged that this was the fulfilment of the pledge made by the Zamfara State Government to rescue and rebuild the state for the better.
