Reno Omokri, an ex-aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, made the claim that Yoruba tribes are the most successful ethnicity around the globe, while congratulating the British-Nigeria-born solo driver Pelumi Nubi, who journeyed from London, United Kingdom, to Lagos, Nigeria.
He took to his social media handle to congratulate Nubi’s on her achievements and highlighted that the lifestyle of showing respect to authority and elders, along with humility, is the reason behind his claims.
He said, “As the cameras captured you in the unscripted act of kneeling before Governor Jide Sanwoolu, I was reminded of why the Yoruba are the most progressive black ethnicity on planet Earth, bar none.”
Omokri linked his claims to the biblical verse from the book of Psalm 138:6, which states, “Though the LORD is great, He cares for the humble, but He keeps His distance from the proud.”
Renowned author and social commentator, Reno Omokri, noted the importance of the exceptional achievements and influence of the Yoruba community, attributing their success to a deep-seated respect for tradition, leaders, and a commitment to humility.
“For kings to be anointed, they must kneel before their anointee.
“That is why the Yoruba have produced the first Black African Nobel laureate for an academic category (Wole Soyinka) and the first Black African military ruler to have voluntarily handed over to a civilian president (Olusegun Obasanjo).
“The first person to have governed Nigeria thrice (Olusegun Obasanjo), the first Nigerian kingmaker to be elected President (Bola Tinubu), and the first Nigerian to win a Grammy Award (Sade Adu), as well as the first person born and bred in Africa to have won a Pulitzer Prize (Dele Olojede).
“Of the top ten highest grossing movies in Nollywood, nine are by Yorubas. Of the top 5 highest-rated actors of Nigerian origin in Hollywood and the British film industry, three are of Yoruba origin, including David Oyeolowo, John Boyega, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and Richard Ayoade.
“At the forefront of this cultural resurgence are icons like Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, famously known as Wizkid, whose meteoric rise to stardom was punctuated by a public display of reverence towards Chief Sunday Adeniyi Adegeye, better known as Sunny Ade.
“Such acts of humility have become emblematic of the Yoruba spirit and have endeared them to audiences worldwide,” he noted.

The political arena also sees the influence of the Yoruba, with Adewale Adeyemo’s historic appointment as Deputy Treasury Secretary in the United States under President Joe Biden, marking a significant milestone for Black Africans in American governance.
Similarly, Kemi Badenoch’s trajectory towards leadership in the UK cabinet underscores the global reach of Yoruba talent and expertise.
Even in the field of medicine, Yoruba ingenuity knows no bounds, with Dr. Oluyinka Olutoye achieving a groundbreaking surgical feat that captured international attention.
Omokri reminds both Yoruba and non-Yoruba readers alike of the importance of embracing cultural heritage and values.
He also emphasised that adherence to principles of respect, humility, and cultural pride can pave the way for individual and collective greatness, transcending geographical and ethnic boundaries.
