President Bola Tinubu has taken decisive action to address challenges facing the Nigerian economy by assembling a diverse array of talents into the newly-established Presidential Economic Coordination Council (PECC).

Last week’s formation of the PECC marks a significant step in Tinubu’s strategy to rejuvenate the economy and steer it towards prosperity.

The PECC, chaired by President Tinubu himself, boasts a lineup of key stakeholders, with Senator Kashim Shettima, Chairman of the National Economic Council (NEC), serving as Vice Chairman.

Additionally, Tinubu has set up the Economic Management Team Task Force (EET) to work in tandem with the existing Economic Team led by Wale Edun, aiming to serve as the driving force behind the PECC’s initiatives.

This high-level economic body, comprising state governors, ministers, industrialists, and economic experts, is tasked with closely monitoring the pulse of the Nigerian economy and devising strategies for its immediate, mid-term, and long-term recovery.

With the nation approaching the first anniversary of the administration, Tinubu emphasizes the importance of collective efforts in steering the Nigerian economy towards robustness.

Drawing inspiration from past successes, such as former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s partnership with “Corporate Nigeria” and President Buhari’s collaboration with industry leaders during the COVID-19 pandemic, Tinubu underscored the value of engaging various sectors to achieve economic revitalization.

Key priorities identified by the PECC include ending the hunger pandemic, fostering sustainable food security, and diversifying the country’s foreign exchange base.

The council also aims to enhance productivity in a bid to address insecurity, particularly terrorism and banditry, while promoting competition and inclusion to prevent monopolization tendencies.

Unlike previous models, the PECC is committed to avoiding partitioning the economy among its members, which could exacerbate corruption and unrest.

Thus, President Tinubu intends to ensure comprehensive inclusivity by bringing in additional pillars of the economy and fostering a level playing field for all stakeholders.

As Nigeria embarks on this ambitious economic endeavor, the collaborative efforts of the PECC are poised to pave the way for a brighter future, fostering prosperity and stability for all Nigerians.
