Tinubu has appointed Ms. Hafsat Abubakar Bakari to serve as the new Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) on Tuesday.
While the Special Adviser to the President Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, reiterated the Tinubu administration’s fight against illegal financial flows and other harsh practices that are now common in some areas of the country’s foreign currency markets, he also said the President believes that Ms. Bakari will be able to fully utilize her depth of experience and skill in carrying out this crucial duty.
The newly appointed Executive Officer of NFIU will await her confirmation by the Senate.

Who is Ms Hafsat Bakari?
Alongside her record of working for years in the fields of financial intelligence, anti-money laundering, and counterterrorism finance (AML/CFT/CPF), Bakari is no doubt a lawyer.
She was the head of the General Services Unit, the Strategy and Reorientation Unit, and the Board Secretariat of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in addition to serving as Deputy Director at the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit prior to her appointment as Chief Executive Officer of the NFIU.
