For many, including Golden Page Magazine, who have been the disciples of football and the love it expresses, football has always made sure to keep us company on Valentines; so that on the night of love, we would not be left single, nor left deprived of the trueness love!

Needless to say, the love for football can be likened to an unconditional love that a father has for his daughter, or to the kind of love that issued what we, today, call ‘Valentine’.

Given the recent definition of love including the practice of it, football has had a better definition of what true love should be, and beyond every shadow of the doubt, it has thus roused up a lot of jealousies, threats, etc. from those who fear the strength of its bonding capabilities.

Football

Valentine and football are two synonymous concepts. While the former is an example of love, the latter is the definition of it.

Evidences abound in history about how these two interchangeable concepts have never walked alone even on Valentine’s Day!

The UCL night has always been comforting those who are without a date on the night of love. The following are some of the best matches that have entertained football fans on Valentine’s Day:

PSG VS Bayern Munich 14 February 2023

PSG were up against a team that had hurt their best chance of winning the champions league in 23 August 2020 and it was expected to be a clash.

The two European giants wanted to prove to each other who the better team was, sadly for PSG this was where their conquest for the UCL was stopped as they lost both the first leg and second leg (1-0, 2-0).

Once again, Bayern had the final laugh against PSG.

PSG vs Real Madrid

In the year 2017/2018, PSG had made the bold decision to sign Neymar for the most expensive transfer fee still known to man – two hundred and twenty two million Euros – and he was to be paired up with Kylian Mbappe and Edision Cavani up front on paper.

This was the most destructive front three off that season, but they were not able to stand against the CR7 lead attack that ran through PSG and showed them that all the money in the world may never win you the champions league.

Leicester City VS Arsenal

The year 2015/2016 will forever be remembered as the year when the underdogs were able to shock the world and lift the coveted English Premier league title. No one who can call himself a football fan would ever forget that moment.

Football

It was a momentous occasion but on their way to this victory they faced one of the Premier League’s ‘big 6’. Expectedly, they lost that match by 2-1, even though that match was not enough to stop this team from going on to lift the Premier League.

PSG vs Barcelona: “Valentine Day Massacre”

In the year 2016/2017, not many teams seemed to be more impressive and determined to win the UCL than Barcelona.

With that attack from Neymar, Messi and Suarez, they were always going to be in contention. But before they eventuallly lost to finalist Juventus, Barcelona Champions League aspiration had faced a serious scar when they were beaten 4-0 away in what some call the “Valentine Day Massacre.”

Football

They would eventually perform one of the greatest UCL comebacks when they beat PSG 6-1 to go into the Quatre Finals where they met and were humbled by Juventus.

Champions League Return

With the Champions league returning today the following are the matches to look out for:

  • PSG Vs Bayern

Once again PSG and Bayern will play on Valentine’s Day but this time it would not be against each other.

  • Man city Vs Copenhagen

For today, Man city Vs Copenhagen, the citizens will want to prove they can defend their champions league title and also prove they are better than their red neighbours when they face the team that crashed Manchester United out of the UCL.

  • Leipzig VS Real Madrid

Then for tomorrow (the day of love):

  • PSG vs Real Sociedad
  • Lazio vs Bayern Munich.
