Gabriel Amanyi, better known as Terry G, has confessed to being a vessel for the devil by the class of his music.

The renowned singer, popularly dubbed the ‘Akpako’ master, made this declaration during a teaser of the upcoming episode of The Honest Bunch Podcast, sparking a flurry of reactions on social media.

“I am a secular musician. I sing for the devil. We [secular musicians] sing for the devil, we praise the devil. We don’t glorify God,” Terry G boldly proclaimed during the podcast snippet, leaving listeners stunned by the depth of his confession.

The controversial statement further intensified as Terry G weighed in on the evolving music landscape in Nigeria, particularly addressing the work of fellow artist Wizkid.

According to Terry G, Wizkid’s music has become less relatable to many Nigerians due to his transition to a new musical style. He suggested that the disconnect stems from the educational backgrounds of artists like himself, describing most of his peers from his era as “illiterates.”

“Wizkid music no dey too relate to us. My colleagues from my set, most of us are illiterates,” Terry G remarked, offering insight into the challenges faced by older generation musicians in adapting to the changing tastes and preferences of contemporary audiences.

Recall that the singer had earlier taken to social media to call out his fellow artist and dancehall sensation, Timaya, over alleged unpaid royalties. He voiced his grievances on his Instagram page, accusing Timaya of failing to fulfill his obligations regarding agreed-upon royalties for a song that Terry G had produced for him.

Expressing his frustration, Terry G highlighted the prevalence of similar issues faced by other artists in the industry.

“Looking at all the podcasts and artists speaking up, the table will be used for firewood the day I will talk my own if you know I produced a song for you,” Terry G stated in his Instagram post.

“I need my 50% producer publishing royalties from Timaya and others. For all the producers out there, use me as an example of how they use and dump greatness. But still, I rise.”
