In a move aimed at bolstering internal security measures, the Nigeria Police Force has announced plans to reintroduce the issuance of tinted glass permits, effective immediately.

The decision came after a thorough review of the ban imposed back in June 2022. The ban was prompted by concerns over the misuse of tinted glass in facilitating various criminal activities, including kidnapping, armed robbery, and illegal firearm transportation.

Under the new framework, stringent measures will be put in place to prevent abuse and ensure strict adherence to guidelines governing the issuance and usage of tinted glass permits.

To facilitate this process, ICT Analysts and Enforcement Officers nationwide will undergo comprehensive training scheduled for February 29, 2024.

The training aims to equip personnel with the requisite skills and knowledge to oversee the registration process, provide assistance to applicants as needed, address public complaints, and enforce compliance effectively.

Emphasis will be placed on familiarizing participants with the intricacies of the revised guidelines, stressing the importance of striking a balance between public safety, individual freedoms, and national security imperatives.

Notable features of the proposed tinted glass permits include a QR code linked to a centralized database for real-time verification, unique serial numbers tied to vehicle and owner particulars, as well as a digital hologram to ensure authenticity and integrity.

It is emphasized that the issuance of tinted permits and the use of tinted glass will strictly adhere to the provisions of the MOTOR VEHICLES (PROHIBITION OF TINTED GLASS) ACT 1991 and other relevant laws.
