The Nigerian Police in Kogi State said it has arrested six persons who beat up Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho in Lokoja yesterday.
Senator Jibrin, who is representing Kogi East at the upper legislative Chamber in the National Assembly, was manhandled in the Government House at a function by some miscreant.
This miscreant has claimed the Senator betrayed his party, the All Progressive Congress (APC), in the off-season election in the state last year.
With his cap removed and his shirt torn by the hoodlums, the Senator was saved by one of the House of Representatives members from kogi East during the severe torture.
The House of Representatives member was said to have summoned courage when he discovered the situation was going out of hand and bounced one of them to rescue the already beaten Senator from their hands.
According to a source, while the hoodlums were wreaking havoc on the Senator, the security operatives were looking the other way.
The attack has received condemnation across the state, with some people pointing accusing fingers at the state government for being the brain behind the attack on the Senator.
