PHOTOS: EFCC Starts Investigation of 16 Suspected Oil Thieves

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Lagos State, commenced investigation of the 16 alleged oil thieves, following the loaded vessel along the State’s Waterways on Saturday.

The alleged suspects were nabbed by the operatives of the Nigerian Navy, NNS Beecroft, Apapa, Lagos State.

In a post shared on the EFCC X handle, it was disclosed that investigations will be carried out and anyone found guilty will face the law.

An investigator of the commission, Moses Awolusi, who received the vessel and the 16 alleged suspects on behalf of the EFCC, assured me that a diligent investigation will be carried out and the culprits will be prosecuted if found guilty, ” the statement read.

The spokesman of the Nigerian Navy, Cdr L.M. Osuman, who handed over the vessel and the 16 alleged oil thieves, said “that the vessel with the name, MT. Vinnalaris 1, laden with about 515,870 litres of crude oil, was taken into custody along with its crew members on December 6, 2023, around Ebesun Oil Field by officers of the Nigerian Navy.

The vessel was actively involved in loading crude oil without possessing any permit,” Osuman disclosed.

However, he assured members of the public that the Nigerian Navy would not relent in tackling the issue of oil theft in the country.
