Peter Obi Condemns Continued Occupation of Next Foods Limited Premises Despite Pending Court Proceedings

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has voiced deep concern over what he describes as the “brazen impunity” surrounding the unlawful occupation of the premises of Next Foods Limited in Ikeja GRA, Lagos.

In a statement shared via his official social media handle (@peterobigregory), Obi expressed disappointment that, despite several applications currently pending before the court — including duly filed committal proceedings — the individual occupying the property has persisted in ignoring both legal authority and public order.

“It is a well-established principle of law, and indeed of civil society, that once parties have submitted their grievances to the judiciary, they are duty-bound to maintain the status quo and allow the court to determine the issues before it,” Obi stated. “Any deviation from this principle not only undermines the justice system but also sets a dangerous precedent for lawlessness.”

Obi further revealed that he and his younger brother, who chairs Next Limited, have made significant efforts to locate and engage the woman laying claim to the property in hopes of reaching a peaceful and amicable resolution. “Regrettably, all such efforts have yielded no fruitful outcome, as she remains evasive and inaccessible,” he added

The dispute highlights broader concerns about respect for judicial processes and the rule of law, especially in cases involving commercial property. As the legal battle continues, Obi’s statement underscores the importance of allowing courts to resolve disputes without interference.
