The Nigerian Naira further experienced decline in its value as it depreciated to N1,340 per US dollar in the parallel market as of yesterday, down from N1,300 per dollar last Friday.

The latest depreciation underscored ongoing volatility in the country’s foreign exchange markets.

In a parallel development, the official Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NAFEM) also saw the Naira lose ground. According to data released by FMDQ, the indicative exchange rate in NAFEM increased to N1,419.11 per dollar from N1,339.23 last weekend.

The change represented a significant depreciation of N79.88, further highlighting the pressures on the Nigerian currency.

Growing disparity between the parallel market and NAFEM rates, now standing at N79.11 per dollar up from N39.23 just last week, points to increasing challenges in the foreign exchange market. This widening gap may signal deeper issues within the economy, including foreign currency shortages and speculative trading pressures.
