Immediately after the resignation of Elisabeth Borne, Macron, President of France, has appointed Mr Gabriel Attal as the first French openly gay prime minister.

Tasking him with the official function of forming a government, Macron is announced to have picked Gabriel, aged 34, to replace the not-so-popular Borne, the 62-year-old stateswoman.
In an effort to make his team ready for the last three years of stay in power this week, Attal was appointed on the basis of his political ingenuity and capability to serve as the right replacement of Borne, the first female to have served the office of the prime minister.
This decision was also made in preparation for the Olympic Games in Paris and European parliament elections this summer.
Gabriel Attal, former Minister of Education, is recorded to have been the most popular figure in French government since his stint at the politically crucial education ministry. This was not so with Elizabeth Borne who was only respected for the disciplinary role she played while in office.
The official appointment of Attal to the government is criticised to be an innovative action by Macron to give his government a new outlook in the public opinion.
The new Prime Minister, during the transfer of power with his predecessor Élisabeth Borne, said “I will have the objective of keeping control of our destiny and unleashing our French potential.”
While the new Prime Minister will make his first trip to Pas-de-Calais to help those affected by the recent floods, other important government figures were unhappy over his appointment.
Among those opposing the new gay prime minister are Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin and Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire.
Since he sustained a second win over the far right in 2022, Macron has faced protests over unpopular pension reforms, the loss of his overall majority in parliamentary elections, and controversy over immigration legislation.
