As the face-off between the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Labour Party (LP) continues to degenerate, Labour Veterans and Trade Unionists’ Assembly has warned the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, and the embattled National chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, to look for an amicable way to resolve their differences instead of disgracing the party with needless quarrel.
Addressing journalists yesterday in Abuja, former vice president of NLC and veteran labour leader, Comrade Isah Tijjani, said Ajaero may likely be voted out of office “if the working class continue to take heavy tolls from the many poorly organised labour strikes under Joe Ajaero’s leadership coupled with his abysmal failure to reign-in the ongoing shenanigans in Labour Party.
“We have called this extraordinary meeting primarily to voice our united opposition to the shameful behaviour that the leaders of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, and the President of Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Joe Ajaero, are continuing to display,” he stated.
He said any labour veteran who wants to free the nation and the working class quickly from the grip of multifaceted poverty, hunger, ignorance, disease, and pervasive exploitation cannot afford to ignore the claims and counterclaims of financial pillages occurring within the Labour Party, a party that all of us toiled and selflessly struggled to establish.
“Regrettably, as we speak, this pathetic situation continued unabated because the NLC which is supposed to play its rightful role as the collective conscience of the party, woefully failed to rise to this enormous responsibility, which she treats with unforgivable levity and reckless abandon.
“Joe Ajaero has to be issued the red card so he can leave the labour scene as soon as possible, as the working class is still suffering greatly as a result of the several badly planned labour strikes that he oversaw and his appalling inability to stop the ongoing shenanigans in the Labour Party.
“Put differently, it’s time for all of us to loudly agree with the impoverished majority when they say, ‘Ajaero Must Go‘,” Part of the statement read.
