MANCHESTER, UK — Manchester City have secured the long-term future of Jérémy Doku after the Belgian winger signed a new five-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2031.
The agreement, announced Thursday, gives City further continuity as the club begins a new chapter under manager Enzo Maresca. Doku, 24, has become an increasingly important part of the Manchester side since arriving from French club Rennes in 2023.
Doku has made 131 appearances for Manchester City, scoring 22 goals since his arrival. His ability to operate on either wing, combined with his pace and one-on-one ability, has made him one of the team’s most dangerous attacking options.
Doku welcomes a new chapter

Speaking after signing the contract, Doku said he was delighted to continue his career at Manchester City.
The winger also expressed enthusiasm about working under Maresca, whose approach places significant importance on attacking width and the contribution of wide players.
For Doku, the new agreement represents more than job security. It gives him an opportunity to establish himself as one of the central figures in City’s next generation of players.
“I have loved my time at City so far,” Doku said, according to the club’s announcement reported by Africanews. He added that remaining at the club for longer was a “fantastic feeling.”
A growing collection of trophies

Doku has already enjoyed considerable success during his first three seasons in Manchester.
His honours with City include the Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and Community Shield.
The 2025–26 season was particularly productive on an individual level. Doku made 47 appearances, scoring eight goals and providing 14 assists.
His performances contributed to City’s success in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup during Pep Guardiola’s final season as manager.
From Rennes to Manchester

Doku’s journey to the Premier League began in France with Rennes, where his pace, dribbling and attacking confidence attracted the attention of some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Manchester City completed his move from Rennes in 2023, and he quickly began adapting to the demands of English football.
His development at City has since been closely watched, with the club increasingly relying on his ability to stretch defences and create opportunities from wide positions.
A key player for Belgium

Doku’s influence also extends to international football.
The winger has earned 48 caps for Belgium and was part of the Belgian team that reached the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup.
His international experience adds another dimension to City’s investment in him. At 24, Doku is entering what could become one of the most important periods of his career.
Manchester City planning for the future

Doku’s renewal is also part of a broader effort by Manchester City to maintain continuity while reshaping the squad.
The club is beginning a new managerial era following Guardiola’s departure, with Maresca now responsible for developing the next phase of the team.
City’s football director Hugo Viana described Doku as a major talent whose improvement since joining the club has been clear. He also praised the player’s pace, versatility, attitude and desire to continue developing.
The new contract therefore sends a clear message: City see Doku not simply as an exciting winger, but as part of their long-term plans.

Jérémy Doku’s story is also part of a wider modern football journey connecting Africa, Europe and the global game.
Born in Belgium to parents of Ghanaian descent, Doku developed his career through Belgium and France before reaching the Premier League. His path illustrates how modern football increasingly connects different cultures, academies and football markets.
His move from Rennes to Manchester City also highlights the important role played by French football as a development pathway for elite international talent.

Now, with his future secured until 2031, Doku has the opportunity to turn potential into sustained excellence.
For Manchester City, the objective will be trophies.
For Doku, the challenge is equally clear: to become one of the defining attacking players of the club’s new era. We will continue to follow his progress in the Premier League, European football and with Belgium.
