President Bola Tinubu has cancelled his forthcoming 72nd birthday which is to be held on March 29 due to the security challenges encountered in Nigeria.

Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, revealed the notice on Sunday, as the date ought to be marked as another important milestone in the president’s life both as a leader and statesman.

It was reiterated that the occasion, which has been redlined, was meant to be a moment of celebration for the family and close associates.

According to the statement, Onanuga said, “President Tinubu is putting a lot of effort into improving life for the majority of our people and values the honour of leading the most powerful country in Africa at this moment.”

He further explained that the president cancelled his birthday “because of the present mood of the nation and the recent killing of the officers and men of our Army and Police in Delta State and the recent spate of security breaches by criminal elements in different parts of Nigeria.

“There should be no form of birthday event and no placing of birthday goodwill advertorial messages in newspapers. Goodwill messages should not be placed on radio and television stations too.”

As he showed his gratitude, President Tinubu urged friends and acquaintances who would want to run goodwill advertisements to kindly give the proceeds to the charitable organizations of their choice.

However, the former Lagos State Governor noted that he used his birthday as an opportunity to reflect and recommit himself to the task of creating a more stable, secure, virile, prosperous, and united Nigeria.
