The Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has warned critics to be careful, assuring those who consider the presidential peace pact a sign of weakness of impending ‘surprise’.
Recall that on October 30, 2023, Mr Fubara agreed to accept the peace pact initiated by President Bola Tinubu, for the well-being of Rivers State.
Fubara Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, revealed that the governor recently decided to turn a blind eye to the online trolls executed by the bad marketers to portray maturity and wisdom.
He also added that the other political actor who posed themselves as bad marketers should not undermines his full capacity while he keeps to Tinubu peace pact agreement.
Despite concealing the peace pact, he reiterated that bad marketers should not see it as a sign of weakness.
“Let me say it here for record purposes: What is happening here in our dear state is somebody who has respect for an elder.
“Mr. President invited all the parties to Abuja and came up with a resolution that we should go and implement. I am implementing that resolution. It is not a constitutional implementation. It is a political solution to a problem.
“And I am doing it because of the respect I have for Mr. President. But, let me say it here: if that action that I have accepted to take is seen as a weakness, I will surprise them. I want this message to go to them,” Fubara stressed.
On Wednesday, during a solidarity rally at Government House Gate in Port Harcourt, Fubara welcomed delegates of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) from the 23 local government areas of Rivers State.
He stated that the large number of NULGE delegates further demonstrates the kind of organic support the state’s citizens continue to award his administration:
“Some days ago, somebody said we were busy renting crowds for Thanksgiving. But what I have seen here today isn’t different from what is happening at those Thanksgiving rallies. People are just appreciating God and good governance.“
After expressing his awareness of the legacy he would leave behind, Governor Fubara said, “It should also be about the lives that have been touched genuinely; about the policies implemented without any inducement to better the people’s lives and the society.”
The governor asked the populace to uphold his administration’s policies, express empathy for the decisions made, and observe the law in a nonviolent way.
“When you are doing what is right, I will stand by you. Nobody, whether full or half, is going to intimidate you. Brace up, I say brace up, because the next step will be fire for fire in Rivers State. Everything will be implemented.”
Local government employees are now earning a minimum wage of N30,000.00, says Governor Fubara, and promotions will be introduced starting with the April payroll.
Together with monthly compensation payments to retirees from local government employment, he also committed to initiating measures to complete the details of the Consolidated Salary Scale for Grade Level 17.
“For our people, the great and wonderful people of Rivers State, we will continue to lead you with the fear of God.
“Maturity is not about age; maturity is in the person. It is what defines the character of a person. I choose not to respond to people that I assume are mature but are obviously immature in attitude.
“I will continue to be mature, not minding my age, but I will not, for any reason, allow myself or anybody who is working with me in this administration to be messed with, maltreated, or abused in the cause of administering this governance.”
In his remarks, Apostle Clifford Paul, the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) Chairman for Rivers State, notified the Governor that they were holding a thank-you rally in honour of his love for the workers.
Apostle Paul said that since Governor Fubara ordered that the workers get the N30,000.00 minimum salary and that the right-year promotion ban be repealed, their situation has improved, and they now have hope again on par with their peers throughout the nation.
In his own words, on behalf of his National President, Mr Ajewole Ayedele, Deputy General Secretary of NULGE, expressed their joy with Governor Fubara’s pro-people policies, especially the removal of the frustration and stagnation that workers experienced.
Comrade Ayedele gave the governor the assurance that his administration would continue to get support from the union at state and federal level.
“At our last NEC meeting, when he (the state chairman) was reporting to us that you have done a series of things to local government staff, because from history, Rivers State has been a source of mockery to other states in Nigeria when it comes to the welfare of local government staff.
“When he said it, somebody from the North said, That means this new governor has tried to part away from what he met on the ground, because we have been asking: How on earth is it possible that workers will be on duty for eight years without promotion?
“But for your wisdom that you have done it for us, we too are going to reciprocate. And I want to assure you, Your Excellency, that anytime you call on us, we are going to come out in mass to associate with you, to solidarize with you, and to continue to pray for you because of your commitment to our welfare and service,” the national officer added.

Mr Alex Agwanwor, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Chairman for Rivers State, stated that workers have made up their minds to support Governor Fubara because he has shown them love, made them smile, and promoted the welfare and development of the state.
In the event that the members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, started another impeachment process against the Governor, Comrade Agwanwor issued a warning: “NLC would not hesitate to take over whatever location they utilise.“
He said that if organised labour decided to take a risk, they would also have to remove the members who were working with the legislators.
