The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Friday, March 29, and Monday, April 1, as public holidays.
The announcement was made public by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who acted on the government’s behalf on March 28.
In a statement released and signed by Aishetu Ndayako, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, the declaration was formalized, emphasizing the significance of these public holidays in the Christian calendar.
In his message, Minister Tunji-Ojo extended a call to Christians and all citizens across Nigeria to reflect on the profound sacrifices and unconditional love exemplified by Jesus Christ, particularly his selfless act of dying for humanity’s redemption.
He highlighted that the essence of Easter transcends its religious importance and the public holidays. Otherwise, he confirmed that the period embodies universal values of love, forgiveness, and compassion, which are foundational for nurturing social cohesion and harmony within the nation.
The Minister also stressed the importance of adopting these virtues, pointing out their potential to significantly contribute to Nigeria’s socio-economic advancement through the promotion of unity, the diminution of conflicts, and the enhancement of cooperative spirits among the populace.
Additionally, Minister Tunji-Ojo encouraged the spirit of charity and generosity among Nigerians, especially towards improving the living conditions of the less privileged.
He aligned this call with the Renewed Hope Agenda championed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, thus underlining the administration’s commitment to fostering sustainable development and widespread prosperity.
