The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi said the decision by the Federal Government to demolish 200 houses in Nuwalege Community in Abuja to pave way for the presidential fleet is inconsiderate at a critical time when the country is passing through untold hardship.

Mr Obi challenged President Bola Tinubu to at this time reduce the presidential fleet to its minimum to cut costs and save funds for more critical projects that have a direct bearing on the lives of Nigerians.
He said, “Instead of demolishing people’s homes in a country where the World Bank announced that over 100 million citizens are being pushed into poverty, and sending hundreds of people into homelessness to accommodate the presidential fleet of luxury aircraft, the fleet should be cut down.
We need to focus instead on how to lessen the pain and suffering of poor people.” Obi counselled the Federal Government.
The former governor said the Federal Government cannot continue to encourage those who have kept people suffering to enjoy a luxurious lifestyle far beyond the legitimate means of the nation.
“A democratically elected people-oriented government must always care for the people, above itself,” he warned.

He therefore implored the Federal Government to rethink, and most importantly, ensure that Nigerians are not rendered homeless for the sake of an unproductive presidential fleet, but rather focus on helping the people and developing the critical sectors for the sake of national peace, progress, and development.
“No nation grows or develops by subjecting the people to avoidable inconveniences to accommodate the luxurious excesses of its rulers,” he stressed.
