The arrant appeal to pity spewed by Ogakwu Dominic, the convener of the Civil Society Group for Good Governance (CSGGG), is absolutely ignorable!
By Samuel Odunayo Afolabi
A group professed to be dedicated solely to the improvement of knowledge that will guarantee standards in ‘Service Delivery’ across private and public institutions is suddenly seen brandishing a flag of fallacy over some rife scam allegations, publicly leveled against their ‘anointed’, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the present Minister of Interior.

Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo had been accused to be one of those linked to the corrupt practices of the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty, Betta Edu.
Yes, it is the same person you know! The ‘groundbreaking’ Tunji-Ojo who has recently overhauled the whole Nigerian immigration industry with digitalized innovations.
The Hon. Tunji-Ojo was sincerely appreciated for having blazed a recognizable trail, when he facilitated the staging of the possibility of a visa registration process. A process that can now be carried out online in the comfort of a regular Nigerian home.
What a great achievement!
Again, barely had the sweet-smelling victory disappeared in the air when the Minister of Interior was rumoured to have been making attempts to “secure funds for prison inmates’ fines in order to ease congestion in correctional facilities nationwide“.
That’s praiseworthy!
But how long should we commend him for, when all these ‘achievements’ are commensurate with responsibilities expected from his political office as minister of that rank?
I was bewildered today! It was in response to a release by the president of the Civil Society Group for Good Governance (CSGGG), Ogakwu Dominic.
The convener released a disappointingly wooing statement which argued, using the pity fallacy, that the people should look the other way concerning the official allegations made against the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, over his involvement with N438 million Humanitarian contract.
The huge amount of money was allegedly said to have been linked to the Honourable following legal troubles that had been swarming around the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty, Betta Edu, over charges of mismanagement of funds.
Betta Edu was arrested on the 9th January, 2024 basically for siphoning over N585 million, which was meant to soothe the sufferings of the less-privileged, into private accounts.
Thanks to the Tinubu-led government which discovered certain inconsistencies in the disbursement of funds for the social investment programme.

Should we then because the popular Minister of Interior has been fulfilling his official obligations allow him to play the Robin Hood of his own pockets on us?
Should we look away and let the CSGGG convener continue cowering us into praising the controversial Minister for doing little out of the much expected while a connivance to empty the national coffers goes on behind the curtain?
No, we won’t.
Rather than be fooled by Mr Dominic’s pity fallacy, we will wait instead for the result of the investigation being conducted by the anti-graft agency, EFCC, and the law as it takes up its due course.
