Federal High Court sitting in Kano has granted an ex-parte order restraining Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano from reinstating Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II pending the determination of a substantive suit filed against the reinstatement.
The Court also frowned at the abolition of four emirates – Bichi, Gaya, Karaye, and Rano by the state house of assembly.
The court subsequently directed all parties involved to maintain status quo ante, pending the determination of the suit filed by Sarkin Dawaki Babba and Aminu Babba-Dan’Agundi yesterday.
The state house of assembly had few days ago scrapped the five Emirates returning it to one entity , hinging their argument on the tradition surrounding the establishment of Kano Emirates.
Immediately after the decision was made, governor Abba Kabir Yusuf declared his intention to re-instate the ousted Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi to continue as the Emir of Kano Emirate.
There have been tension in the state over the cold war between the families of the deposed Emirs and the state government over its intention to restore the throne to the former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.
