Chelsea have reached the last four of the EFL Cup after beating Newcastle on penalty’s.

Callum Wilson’s 16th-minute strike appeared to have Newcastle heading for the semi-finals, but substitute Mykhailo Mudryk capitalized on veteran defender Kieran Trippier’s late error to equalize in stoppage time and force a penalty shootout.
It seemed to be a nightmare for the veteran defender as he also blasted wide Newcastle’s second penalty and once keeper Djordje Petrovic saved Matt Ritchie’s spot-kick Chelsea had gone from the despair of contemplating defeat to the sheer elation of a place in the last four.
Also Chelsea fans were able to see star signing Nkunku on the pitch as he came in on the 69th minute also he was on target for the blues from the penalty spot.

Cole Palmer, Conor Gallagher, and Mudryk were all on target for Chelsea but only Callum Wilson and Bruno Guimaraes scored penalties for Newcastle.
The draw for the semi-finals takes place after Liverpool v West Ham today, with the first leg of those ties being played in the week commencing 8 January, 2024.
