Born on September 14, 1978, in Lagos State, Nigeria, Bright Okpocha proudly traces his roots to Abia State.
Basketmouth’s educational journey took him through primary and secondary schooling in Apapa, Lagos. Later, he went to the University of Benin, Edo State, where he pursued a degree in Sociology and Anthropology.
Career
Basketmouth’s artistic journey began with an exploration of his musical talents in drumming and rapping. His drumming skills surfaced in 1991, followed by a venture into rapping by 1994.
Da Psychophaths
He formed the group “Da Psychophaths” in 1995, and later, another rap ensemble named “Da Oddz” alongside his brother Godwin and Muyiwa Ola-Phillips. Despite their performances, “Da Oddz” faced challenges gaining recognition, leading to their eventual disbandment.
In the realm of comedy, Basketmouth rose to prominence, securing the National Comedy Award in 2005 and 2006, earning the title of the Best Stand-up Comedian of the Year. His comedic prowess has been showcased in various shows, including appearances on the Africa Magic series “My Flatmates.”
