Chief Bode George, a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has voiced deep concern over the worsening security situation in Nigeria, declaring that it has spiraled beyond control.
In an interview on Channels Television’s Politics, Bode George emphasized that the current state of the nation transcends political considerations and urged President Bola Tinubu to address the pressing issues at hand.
Expressing the gravity of the situation, George remarked, “The state of our nation has been completely in a shambolic situation. It is perpetual despair and despondency. There is hunger in the land and there is anger in the land; the insecurity has gone beyond control.”
Acknowledging President Tinubu’s New Year speech and objectives for the year, George emphasized the need for modern technology in addressing security challenges, advocating for widespread surveillance using cameras, similar to practices in developed nations like England.
Chief Bode George particularly highlighted the importance of equipping the security forces with modern technology, stating, “You need equipment; you need surveillance. The technology available now was not available at our time. So, it will be a combination of modern technology; put cameras all over like they do here in England. You don’t have to be physically there; you monitor from your control room things that are happening.”

Reiterating a longstanding call for state police, George argued that decentralizing power in this manner would enhance community involvement in policing. He emphasized the communal nature of police work and suggested that employing individuals from local communities would contribute to the effectiveness of law enforcement efforts.
While acknowledging the complexity of the challenges, George urged President Tinubu to commence efforts to address the security crisis, emphasizing that visible actions would reassure the Nigerian people that steps are being taken to tackle the pervasive insecurity in the country.
