News of killing, kidnapping, and insurgency was once the constant in Nigeria’s North until Ekiti and Ibadan, two southwestern locations of the country, have begun a new market for it.

In the same month of January, quite a lot of changes affected the regular narratives of the country. Not long ago, we heard of an explosion which resulted in a sustainable number of casualties somewhere in Ibadan.

And now, yesterday evening, two Ekiti State obas could not help but meet with their end as they were heading back home from a meeting which was reported to be about the strategisation of the council of obas in the region to engender security in the whole of the state.

What an irony on the loose!

Out of the three traditional rulers who were on transit together along Oke-ako road in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State, the acclaimed kidnappers were said to have only been able to kill two, while a monarch, Oba Adebayo Fatoba, Alara of Ara Ekiti, luckily escaped from the scene.

Unfortunately the Elesun of Esun-Ekiti, Oba David Babatunde Ogunsakin, and the Onimojo of Imojo-Ekiti, Oba Olatunde Samuel Olushola, could not escape the jinx of brutal death in the hands of the criminals.

What nobody knows is whether these demonic acts, as practised by those who participate in them, are questions that need only the President to answer and address.

Are the questions economic, or a socioeconomic thirsts for some radical political change??? I am not sure.

But if I am, you will bet that my certainty must come with more questions like must attempts to communicate grievances with the government be at the expense of fellows’ lives?

The Eyewitness’ Plea

While digging deeper than catching glimpses, news from Daily Trust gathered some reports from the Chairman of the Ajoni Local Council Development Area, Micheal Ogungbemi, in Ekiti State. The man confirmed that the gunmen attempted to kidnap three traditional rulers.

I just returned from the scene of the unfortunate incident along Oke-Ako road and I can confirm that two traditional rulers; the Elesun of Esun-Ekiti and Onimojo of Imojo-Ekiti were killed by the gunmen who ambushed them.”

The Alara of Ara-Ekiti managed to escape from the incident  when the incident happened. We have evacuated the remains of the monarchs and deposited them in the morgue at the Ikole General Hospital.

In an attempt to fuel the rage of revenge , Ogungbemi said the Amotekun corps and a couple of others have been begun work in scouting the forest and setting at the perpetrators.

Our local security outfit and Amotekun have been drafted to the scene and the bush to arrest the bandits who committed this dastardly act,” he said.

Hence, in order to help the citizens defend themselves and also enhance tight security, Ogungbemi has therefore asked the Federal Government to approve usage of arms by Amotekun in the state.
