World Press Freedom Day!!!
And words went the prison way!
Down from the trees of Syria
The keyboard, mic, and the camera
Fell, daggered with indignant spear
Of the Al-shabaab.
What about Israel, strangling us
Against the falling walls
In Gaza!!!
World Press Freedom Day:
One two two since October’s rain,
One seven on Russia’s way –
Recumbent rots of risk-taking bones,
Lebanon killed you. Humming drones
Hovered above Vietnamese burial place –
We heard that, too, on World Press Freedom Day!
What about in Africa? “Nigeria,” says the placard.
More death before. More than death now.
World Press is the calendar and yes the keyboard
Who tells the world about the nomad’s favourite cow.
Words have gone to prison in shackled dress,
Where impunity was the judge and we begged and begged!
Flesh is buried deep in the cemetery
On Freedom’s day’s dripping knife in the hand of Zelenskyy!

According to the United Nations:
In 2024, World Press Freedom Day is dedicated to the importance of journalism and freedom of expression in the context of the current global environmental crisis.
