Unai Emery’s men were able to record 15th straight home league victory.

Aston Villa closed in on the Premier League summit, securing a slender victory over Arsenal and narrowing the gap to just two points.

Captain John McGinn propelled Villa into the lead, skillfully converting a cross from Leon Bailey and powerfully finding the net.

Arsenal had a late Kai Havertz goal ruled out for handball by referee Jarred Gillett, with the video assistant referee upholding the call after a lengthy review.

Villa held on to back up their statement victory over champions Manchester City on Wednesday despite late Arsenal pressure.

The defeat was a blow for title-chasing Arsenal, whose run of six straight wins in all competitions came to an end at Villa Park, as well as slip to second on the log after Liverpool won their match earlier today.
