In a concerted effort to enhance mining safety practices, the Gombe State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has joined forces with the Office of the Federal Mines Officer in the state.
The collaboration has resulted in a comprehensive inspection of various quarry sites to assess and enforce strict compliance with mining safety guidelines and protocols.
Headed by the Commissioner of Energy and Mineral Resources, Hon. Sanusi Ahmed Pindiga, the inspection team visited AYU Engineering, Grandscope, and Triacta quarries situated in the Gombe and Yamaltu/Deba areas of Gombe state on Thursday.
The primary objective of the visits was to inspect the operational sites of the quarry companies, with a focus on ensuring strict adherence to mining guidelines and safety protocols.
Commissioner Pindiga emphasised the importance of mining companies engaging in signing Community Development Agreements (CDAs) with host communities.
The commissioner said the measure will ensures the provision of essential community services aligned with the specific needs of the communities as well as contribute to a harmonious relationship between companies and their local environments.
“We are conducting this inspection to evaluate the extent of compliance by these quarries with mining guidelines and safety protocols,” said Commissioner Pindiga. He reiterated the commitment to guaranteeing that the operations of these companies do not harm the environment or pose potential hazards to host communities.

Federal Mines Officer in Gombe State, Engr. Zakari Adamu, emphasized the steadfast commitment of the federal government to enforcing mining guidelines across all mining companies operating in the state.
He commended the visited companies for fulfilling their obligation of revenue remittance, highlighting its significance to the federal government through the Federal Ministry of Solid Resources.
Quarry Managers of the three companies reassured their commitment to adherence to established guidelines. They highlighted their use of environmentally benign practices, such as the use of Nonel for granite blasting, ensuring that their operational activities pose no harm to the surrounding communities.
The ongoing joint inspection, set to continue with other mining companies, reflects a dedication to fostering a secure environment.
This initiative aligns with the imperative of responsible and secure mining practices, showcasing the collaborative efforts of both the state and federal entities involved in overseeing the mining sector.
The Commissioner was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Directors, and other staff during this crucial inspection.
