The Kogi State government has given the approval for the establishment of State Electricity Regulatory agency to cater for the residents, following the dwindling fortunes of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company in the state.
The State Commissioner For Information, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, stated this shortly after the State Executive Council Meeting yesterday in Lokoja.
The Commissioner said, “This and other far reaching decisions were taken as measures to take the state to new heights.
“The approval to set up the Kogi State Electricity Regulatory Agency followed the advantage of the State water mass, solar potentials and massive coal deposits.”
The Commissioner further disclosed that the present administration in the state was determined to cut cost and as well ensure provision of infrastructure that will speed up development in the state.
With this development, Kogi State has now joined the league of state going for independent power generation due to the abysmal performances of the Power Distribution Companies in the country.
The singular act has generated applauds from the residents of Lokoja and many other commercial centres in Kogi state that have been paying for electricity bills through their nose without any commensurate in put from the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC.
Commenting on the issue, the community chairman of Nyama-Nyama- Community in Ganaja village, a suburb in Lokoja, housing thousands of middle class workers and business men, Elder Simon Odekina, said it is the first direction to an economic emancipation of the people of the state.
“The effort of Kogi state government to establish electricity agency if properly implemented will save the people from obnoxious tariff from AEDC.
“It will be one of the best thing that the present administration will leave behind as a legacy,” he stated
