Sean “Diddy” Combs has issued a public apology after CCTV footage surfaced showing him physically assaulting his ex-girlfriend Cassandra “Cassie” Ventura in a hotel hallway in 2016.
The video, aired by CNN earlier this week, captures Combs pushing and kicking Cassie.
In a video statement posted on Instagram, Combs took full responsibility for his actions, calling them “inexcusable.” Diddy stated, “I was disgusted when I did it. I’m disgusted now. I sought professional help, went to therapy and rehab, and asked for God’s mercy and grace. I’m so sorry.”
He also committed to being a better man every day.
However, Cassie’s legal team criticized Combs’ apology. Meredith Firetog, a lawyer for Ms. Ventura, told CBS News, “This statement is more about himself than the many people he has hurt. When Cassie and multiple other women came forward, he denied everything and suggested his victims were looking for a payday. His ‘apology’ now shows his desperation and disingenuousness.”
The BBC has not independently verified the video, which reportedly shows surveillance footage from March 5, 2016, at the now-closed InterContinental Hotel in Century City, Los Angeles.
The footage depicts a man identified by CNN as Diddy pushing Cassie to the floor, kicking her, and later dragging her by her shirt and throwing an object at her.
Until the video surfaced, Combs had not publicly commented on the incident. The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office has indicated that the alleged assault may be too old to prosecute.

Combs and Cassie began their relationship when she was 19 and he was 37. Their tumultuous relationship ended in 2018. Last November, Cassie settled a lawsuit against Combs, accusing him of rape and sexual trafficking over a decade, for an undisclosed sum.
At the time, Combs’ lawyer, Benjamin Brafman, stated that the settlement was “in no way an admission of wrongdoing.”
Since then, several other women have filed lawsuits against Combs, accusing him of sexual and physical abuse. Last month, his homes in Los Angeles and Miami were raided as part of a federal investigation into human trafficking.
