President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the President-Elect of the Republic of Chad, Mahamat Déby, on his election victory.

The President, in a statement through his Special adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, affirmed that the successful conduct of elections in the nation underlines the commitment of the government and the people of Chad to democracy and orderly transitions in the region.
Tinubu assured the President-elect, Déby, that Nigeria will continue to work closely with the Republic of Chad, as both countries seek to enhance peace, security, and shared prosperity for the mutual benefit of their peoples.
He also called for sustained, friendly cooperation between both nations, while wishing the president-elect success as he undertakes this noble service to the people of Chad.
The Chad State electoral commission on Thursday last week announced that the interim President Mahamat Idriss Deby had won the May 6 presidential election overwhelmingly with 61% of the vote, relying on the provisional results , despite the fact that his main opponent declared himself winner.
Prior to the formal announcement of the winner by the National Election Management Agency Chairman, Ahmed Bartichet, tensions were running high, large numbers of security forces were deployed to major roads and streets in N’djanena to forestall break down of law and order.
The Election Commission Chief said Deby had secured 61.1 % of the vote – comfortably over the 50% required to beat the run -off.
