The longstanding rivalry between rap heavyweights Kendrick Lamar and Drake has reached new heights with Lamar’s scathing diss track, ‘Euphoria’, released 1 May.
In this six-minute onslaught, Lamar pulls no punches, lambasting Drake as a ‘manipulator and habitual liar’ while questioning his parenting skills.
He accused the Canadian star of selling out and implies that Drake’s music is merely a tool for appeasing fans rather than genuine artistic expression.
The feud traces back to 2013, when Lamar’s boastful remarks at the BET Awards were interpreted as a dig at Drake. Since then, tensions have periodically flared, with both artists taking veiled shots at each other in their music.
The latest escalation began when J Cole, Drake, and Lamar were hailed as the “big three” of rap on the track “First Person Shooter.” Lamar’s subsequent verse on “Like That” declared himself the sole standout, reigniting the rivalry.
Drake fired back with two diss tracks, “Push Ups” and “Taylor Made Freestyle,” the latter drawing controversy for its use of AI technology mimicking voices of rap icons like Tupac Shakur.
Lamar’s “Euphoria” responds sharply, criticizing Drake’s AI usage and questioning his authenticity as a lyricist.
Lamar also addresses personal responsibilities outside of rap, hinting at Drake’s lack of understanding regarding parenthood.
Despite the heated exchanges, Lamar refrains from delving into deeply personal territory, opting for a more respectful tone by declining to respond to Drake’s mention of his wife in a previous song.
