Recent hints pointed out the plans of veteran actors like Sam Dede and Chinwetalu Agu to make a return through the remake of the classic movie, ‘Issakaba.’
The original five-part film, initially produced by the late producers, Chukwuka Emelionwu and Moses of Mosco in 2001, is now getting a fresh perspective from popular filmmaker, Lancelot Imasuen.
In a statement sent to Saturday Beats, Imasuen, also known as ‘The Guvnor’ by his admirers, revealed that the remake would not only feature actors from the first production, but also introduce new faces to the ‘Issakaba’ universe. Joining veteran actors like Dede and Agu are Chidi Mokeme, Regina Daniels, Nosa Rex, Iyabo Ojo, Sanni Danga, and Alex Osifo, among others.

The decision to revisit ‘Issakaba‘ was fueled by overwhelming demands from fans across various social media platforms such as X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. Even notable entertainers like Davido have incorporated the term ‘Issakaba’ into their content.
Lancelot Imasuen explained the motivation behind the remake, stating, “The reboot became necessary due to popular demand by fans on social media platforms. The calls for the remake of the movie have reached a frenzy level. Even notable entertainers, such as Davido, have continued using the word, ‘Issakaba’, in their contents.”
The original movie was a gripping action thriller, chronicling the exploits of a community vigilante group known as the ‘Bakassi Boys,’ combating armed robbery, murder, and other crimes. It also depicted the struggles of shoemakers in Aba, Abia State, facing terror from armed gangs. The shoemakers, resilient and determined, fought back using ‘traditional’ methods of policing, achieving positive results. ‘Issakaba’ symbolizes truth, justice, and fairness.
The cast of the remake includes Phyna, Mark Angel, Francis Onwochei, Charles Okafor, and Ben Olaye, a blend of seasoned and veteran actors with fresh talents to bring the story to life once again.
