The police action came in response to a petition filed by Diamond Waves Law on behalf of Mr. Ibu’s wife, Stella. The petition alleged that the actor’s sons, Onyeabuchi and Valentine Okafor, along with his adopted daughter, Jasmine Okekeagwu, conspired to deceive and defraud Mr. Ibu, who has been facing health challenges.

The police, in a press statement issued by spokesperson ASP Mayegun Amina, revealed that their investigation into the case unveiled a distressing plot.

However, it was disclosed that Onyeabuchi and Jasmine, with alleged manipulation of Stella, gained possession of Mr. Ibu’s phone and hacked into his banking details. Disturbingly, they reinstalled the banking app, siphoned N55 million from the donations, and hatched a plan to flee the country after orchestrating a sham marriage.

The gravity of the situation prompted the forwarding of the case file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice, ensuring a thorough and just examination of the alleged crimes.

Subsequently, the police, after investigation, arrested and managed to recover N50 million from the suspects. Subsequently, they were charged with conspiracy and stealing at the Chief Magistrate’s Court 1, Yaba.

The suspects have reportedly been granted bail on temporary terms, and the case was scheduled to resume on March 11, 2024.

Background

Mr Ibu’s critical health condition had made his family to seek for financial assistance from fans and well-wishers all over the world. These donations were channeled into a dedicated bank account, which was publicized for transparency.
