The Ondo State Governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has nominated Olaide Adelami, a former deputy clerk of the National Assembly, now as the deputy governor of the state.
The announcement about Dr. Olaide Adelaide came barely after the dissolution of state executive councils and key officials, such as special advisers, on Wednesday.
In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Ebenezer Adeniyan, the name of the new deputy governor has been transmitted to the state House of Assembly for approval.
“His nomination will be announced by the House of Assembly later today,” the statement read.
The governor announcing his deputy relieved all commissioners, special advisers, senior special assistants and special assistants of their duties.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, on Wednesday, the governor said the development would take immediate effect.
He said, “All members of the cabinet are to immediately hand over to the Permanent Secretaries or the most senior administrative officers in their respective offices.
“All the affected officials are directed to hand over all government properties in their possession.
“The governor thanks the affected officials for their services and contributions to the development of the state.”

Governor Aiyedatiwa was on December 27, 2023, sworn in as the governor of the state following the death of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
Meanwhile, the speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji has confirmed that the House has received the name of the Deputy Governor nominee from the Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.
The Speaker announced his name as Dr. Olayide Owolabi Adelami (MNI).
Oladiji, while receiving the letter on behalf of other Lawmakers today in his office, said that the Governor’s action is in line with Section 191(3) b&c of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.

The Speaker in the statement also said that Dr Olaide Adelami is expected to appear before the House tomorrow, 25th January, 2024, for screening.
The Deputy Governor’s Short Background
Dr Olaide Adelami hails from Owo in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Olaide Adelami retired as Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly in April, 2018. He hails from Owo, Owo Local Government Area, the same LGA of late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
Adelami, an astute politician and a card caring member of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) ran for governorship in 2020, but stepped down for the late Akeredolu.
