Nigeria Actor, Producer and Director Yomi Fabiyi has advice Nigerian Film producers and Directors to Start telling stories that show Nigeria as a brand with positive summery.
It’s time to produce quality movie that tell direct insightful story about our Nigerian Society. We must realize that Nigeria movies represent the image of Nigeria and if we don’t tell good stories it will affect our brand as a country.
Just last week, Nigeria’s Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has asked Nollywood movie makers to stop showing films having themes of ritual and kidnapping because money ritual is a myth.
Nigerian Movie Industry is said to be the 3rd largest movie industry in the world and it’s not out of place for the public to demand for Movie makers to portray Nigeria Society in a better light instead of showing mostly the ill part.
Yomi Fabiyi while on Channels tv Sunrise morning on Saturday 15 February, said that it’s not encouraging to see Nigerian police practice torture and other brutality on films which could send a wrong message of human right violation in the real world. According to Yomi. Nigeria film industry is in a developing stage with challenges such as the lack of professional film schools in Nigeria continue to reduce the chance of growth in terms of quality materials.
Nigeria Film makers should begin by showing Nigeria in their films like other Film industries like Hollywood where there is clear picture of their society so that and world can get to understand a lot about the culture of their brand, style and systematic quality. He also stressed on films that shows how Nigeria police are misrepresented and discredits as public service officers. Stories have National value and movie makers should have themes and develop a new strategy to stand as a standard Movie Industry.
