It has been estimated that about one thousand Nigerians were said to be stranded in Europe and other countries following fake job offers abroad.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), Chief of Mission to Nigeria, Mr Laurent de Boeck, stated this in Maiduguri, Borno state at a yearly press briefing on the humanitarian work of the organisation in the country.
De Boeck cautioned Nigerians against falling prey to fake job syndicates offering jobs abroad.
He said that the unfortunate thing is that the victims of the job syndicate have legal migration papers with fake employment letters, which were usually dissociated by presumed employers overseas.
He explained that IOM, in collaboration with the Federal Government, had facilitated the return of 4,431 Nigerian migrants from abroad in 2023 and supported their reintegration, adding that a total of 2,853 individuals received reintegration assistance, engaging in socio-economic opportunities of their choice.
